How Many Pallets Fit on a 26-ft Box Truck?

What it depends on

• Interior length and width of the actual truck body.
• Pallet size and orientation: 48 x 40 in. is the U.S. standard.^[4]
• Payload rating of the truck.
• Loaded pallet height against the interior and door height.
• How it is loaded: at a dock-high door or with a liftgate.

The floor math

Penske lists its 26-ft commercial box truck at "25 ft. 11 in. long x 8 ft. 1 in. wide x 8 ft. 7 in. high" with up to 10,000 lb of payload,^[1] and its consumer 26-ft truck at up to 25 ft 11 in. x 8 ft 1 in. x 8 ft 1 in.^[2] That is about 311 x 97 in. of floor.

Twelve is the planning number. Fourteen assumes perfectly square pallets with no overhang, loaded with almost no side clearance.

Weight usually decides

Twelve pallets on a truck with up to 10,000 lb of payload average about 830 lb each. Heavier pallets mean fewer of them. Enterprise lists its 26-ft business truck at up to 10,000 lb payload as well, with a dock-high box.^[3]

Example

A cross-dock splits a 26-pallet trailer across local deliveries. Pallets average 700 lb, so 12 of them are 8,400 lb, inside a 10,000 lb payload; the remaining 14 pallets go on two more box trucks or a larger vehicle.

Limitations

No rental company whose specs were checked publishes a pallet count, so 12 is floor math, not a promise. Bodies vary by make and year, and door width, liftgate capacity and pallet height can all reduce the count. Measure the truck you get.
